Measurement Principle
Laser Doppler Vibrometers (LDVs) measure vibrations by detecting the frequency shift of a laser beam reflected from a moving surface. This frequency shift, known as the Doppler effect, is directly proportional to the velocity of the vibrating object. By analyzing the changes in the laser light’s frequency, LDVs provide highly precise, contactless measurements of vibrational motion — even at nanometer-scale amplitudes.
